With a synthesis of extraordinary intelligence and great leadership skills, Jeanette Fields did amazing things for the preservation of Frank Lloyd Wright's Built Legacy. She was instrumental in saving and restoring the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, Unity Temple, H.H. Richardson's Glessner House, and numerous other Frank Lloyd Wright buildings across the U.S. including the E. Arthur Davenport House. She was one of the founders of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy (FLWBC). After helping to save the H.H. Richardson's Glessner House in Chicago, she became the first Executive Director of the Chicago Architecture Foundation. She served on many boards (often as a founding board member) including the FLWBC, Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Foundation, the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation, and the Hemingway Foundation.
Jeanette Fields was an accomplished and highly respected writer on historic preservation. As the First Executive Director of the Chicago Architecture Foundation she started the tour program for the Glessner House and grew it into the signature tour program of great architecture throughout Chicago that continues today. She was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Chicago Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture and the Landmark Illinois’ Richard D. Driechaus Foundation Preservation Award as a Distinguished Illinois Preservationist.
Jeanette Fields was an exceptional person who was widely influential and helped save great architectural works through her inspiring leadership. Her legacies continue to this day and continue to grow and shape historic preservation.
