  • Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or provide proof of intention to become a citizen.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of application and at such time as the first “Final Eligibility Register” is posted; unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in the Fire and Police Commissioners Act. 
  • As one of the conditions for hire as a Police Officer on the River Forest Police Department, applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline or an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice from an accredited College or University.
  • Applicants must submit proof that they have passed the Illinois Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test dated between within one year of the testing date.

Submit Application. Please upload the following required documentation:

  • A copy of your Driver’s License
  • Birth Certificate
  • College Transcript(s) or documentation establishing your enrollment in a College or University, if you have not yet graduated
  • Power Test Card issued within one year of the testing date

If you are unable to obtain a copy of the above documentation at the time of submitting your application, you will be required to bring the documentation with you on the day of testing. 


Mandatory Orientation: It is mandatory that all applicants attend the orientation. Failure to attend or appearing late will disqualify the applicant for further participation in the examination process. 


Written Examination: The minimum passing grade is 70%.


Oral Interview: Applicants who successfully pass the written test will be notified of the exact date, time, and location for their oral interview.


If you need to obtain a POWER Test Card, we accept certifications from any vendor as long as they are certified to administer the test. The vendors below administer Power Test Certification classes.  Please contact them directly for more information:
