Statement on October 20, 2025 Immigration Enforcement Activity

October, 20, 2025

This morning, the Village of River Forest was made aware of the presence of federal immigration agents conducting enforcement actions within the community. Reports indicate that the activity targeted landscapers and contractors in the 500 and 600 blocks of Franklin Avenue.

At this time, the Village has not received confirmation regarding the number of individuals detained or the nature of any charges filed. Federal agencies did not notify or coordinate with the Village prior to initiating these actions.

The Village’s top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents, visitors and students. The River Forest Police Department will continue to respond to all calls for service. In the event of a report involving immigration enforcement, officers will respond to observe and confirm activity. In accordance with the Illinois TRUST Act, River Forest officers are prohibited from assisting in federal immigration enforcement. Officers are also not authorized to interfere with federal agents in the performance of their duties. All officers are trained in the TRUST Act and understand their responsibilities in these situations.

We encourage all residents and visitors to know their rights and be prepared for potential interactions with federal officers. For resources and guidance, please consult the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) or Illinois Immigration Information for fact sheets and legal information.
