Green Electric Aggregation Program

March, 11, 2024

In the coming week, residents may receive a letter regarding the Village’s Electric Aggregation Program. The program is approved by the Village and provides eligible residents and will not impact the rate on your electricity bill. You will pay the same rate as the published monthly ComEd rate. Your billing and service will remain the same. You will continue to receive a monthly invoice from ComEd.

The Village’s Electric Aggregation Program provides eligible residents and small businesses with electricity that supports renewable energy projects and offsets CO2 emissions. The program automatically enrolls residents to receive electric supply from MC Squared Energy Services, LLC (MC2), the Village’s current contractor, unless you choose to opt out..

You are not required to do anything to participate in the Village’s Electric Aggregation Program. MC2 will automatically process your enrollment and acquire Renewable Energy Credits on behalf of the Village, based on your historical electric consumption.  There are no enrollment fees or early termination fees.

If you do not opt-out of the Village’s Electric Aggregation Program, you will be deemed to have authorized and agreed to your enrollment in the electric aggregation program. For more information, email RiverForest@mc2energyservices.com or call 888-423-1390  Residents can also opt out here: https://www.mc2energyservices.com/municipal-aggregation/optout. We encourage you to contact MC2 first before contacting the Village with any questions.  Please beware: any solicitor who comes to your door or calls, asking you to switch to a supplier is not associated with the Village, MC2, or ComEd.

About the Program

In September 2020, the Village of River Forest established a Green Electric Aggregation Program that supports renewable energy projects and offsets the Village’s CO2 emissions, making significant progress towards the goal of to reaching 100% renewable energy by 2050.  The program is estimated to offset nearly 26,000 metric tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of approximately 5,500 cars. It would take 34,000 acres of forest (137 times the size of Thatcher Woods) to sequester the same amount of carbon.

MC2 was selected to provide electric supply to the Village, utilizing clean, renewable energy development through the acquisition of certified Renewable Energy Certificates (REC’s) from wind farms in the Midwest. The program provides eligible residents and small business with an electric supply price equal to the ComEd rate for the length of the agreement, through September 2024, with all bills and electric distribution still being handled by ComEd. At the end of the term, if the Village decides to end the program, all accounts served by mc2 will be returned to ComEd service.
