A Special E-News Message from the Village President, Catherine Adduci

July 30, 2020

Dear River Forest Residents,

COVID-19 Update

We are sending these COVID-19 updates because we continue to have confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in River Forest, Cook County, and Illinois. It is time to step up!  We are all always asking, “How can we help?” We can all help by wearing face coverings, practicing social distancing and washing our hands. Insist on smaller groups of neighborhood get-togethers. If you must vacation to a hotspot, please quarantine yourself upon return. If you or your kids feel sick, please do not go out. Together, let’s support our community by not spreading the virus. These practices help prevent people who may be asymptomatic from spreading the virus to others. Let’s not go backwards to Phase 3…...please!

The Centers for Disease Control calls for individuals to continue wearing masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health explains when to wear a mask and best practices for homemade masks or face coverings. Please continue to wear face coverings - your face covering may protect your neighbors and theirs may protect you.

The Cook County Department of Public Health has released travel guidance to help limit the potential spread of COVID-19 from other parts of the country that are seeing a surge in new cases. The guidance includes a Suburban Cook County travel quarantine list that is updated every Tuesday. If you have traveled to or from any of the states on this list, please consider self-quarantining for 14 days. Residents should also self-quarantine if you have been exposed to a confirmed case or are symptomatic for COVID-19.

Please remember to help care for our senior community members. If you have an elderly neighbor, give them a call to check in on them. If you are a senior resident that needs assistance, our River Forest COVID-19 Senior Response Team is still available. If you need a face covering and cannot make your own, or need general assistance such as grocery shopping or pharmacy pick up, please call our River Forest COVID-19 Senior Response Team at 708-613-1642.

School District 90 Return to School

The Village will continue to collaborate with our elementary School District 90 during their return to school. We will coordinate with the District to ensure that we do everything we can to keep our families safe. To learn more about the “Return to School” plan approved by the District 90 Board of Education, please click here.

IRS Economic Impact Payments

The Internal Revenue Service is conducting an outreach campaign to reach everyone who may be eligible for an Economic Impact Payment (EIP), including people who don’t have a permanent address and those who don’t normally file a federal tax return. You don’t need income to qualify. Please note that the non-filer tool is intended for eligible individuals who have not automatically received the payment. Individuals must register by October 15, 2020. Click here to register and to review eligibility criteria. Vist IRS.gov/coronavirus for more information.

The IRS has also released information on the top scams of 2020 that target taxpayers. Click here to learn more and protect yourself from these scams.

2020 Census

The 2020 Census is important for River Forest, Cook County and the State of Illinois. For everyone who is counted, River Forest receives money from the State and Federal Government.  Please be counted - the Village loses out on money for every person not counted!

As of July 28, 2020, 81.3% of River Forest households have already responded to the 2020 Census. Have you? If you have not responded to the 2020 Census, you still have time! Learn more and complete the Census today. Visit my2020Census.gov or vrf.us/Census
