On December 12, 2017 the River Forest Police Department responded to Residential Burglary incidents on the 1200 block of Monroe and the 800 block of Monroe.  In both incidents, the offenders forced open the rear door of the residence and removed jewelry and electronics. Further investigation resulted in the offenders’ car being recovered and proceeds from the Residential Burglaries located within the vehicle. On March 6, 2018 River Forest Detectives charged Diego Perez (21-years old from Chicago) and Justin Gonzalez (22-years old of Chicago) with two counts of Residential Burglary. Both subjects are self-admitted gang members, and are being held at the Cook County Jail pending an April court date.

In a separate investigation, River Forest Detectives had already charged two juveniles with Burglary and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle for their involvement in a January 4, 2018 Burglary and Auto Theft on the 900 block of Franklin. Detectives had been actively searching for a third juvenile, 16-years old from Chicago, for his involvement in the crimes. River Forest Police were notified by the Chicago Police Department that on March 8, 2018 the juvenile had been shot multiple times on the 800 block of N. Waller. The juvenile succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at a west-side hospital. Chicago Police are calling this homicide as possibly gang-related.
