Overnight parking & vacation watch requests

For information on day-time, on-street parking passes, click here.

  • Overnight parking on Village streets is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
  • When a resident of River Forest goes on vacation, the Police Department can offer extra patrol to check on your property. The Vacation Watch Program should give you some peace of mind while you're away. Please submit your request at least a week prior to your absence.

Overnight Parking requests

In order to park during such time, residents must receive approval from the Village:

  1. Persons may call the West Suburban Consolidated Dispatch Center at 708-366-7125 after 5:00 pm and receive permission from a dispatcher to park a vehicle on the street between the hours of 2:00 am and 6:00 am.

  2. Residents must call to request the waiver prior to 2 am. Normally, requests after this time will not be approved. If there is an extraordinary situation the resident will have to contact the on-duty Police supervisor (by request) through the non-emergency phone number at 708-366-7125.

  3. Ordinarily, permission to park all night will not be given more than three times in any thirty-day period. Permission to park more than three times in any thirty-day period may be given for unusual circumstances, but only by a Police Department command officer.

The Village may lift the overnight parking ban for certain holidays, such as Thanksgiving.

Vacation Watch Program

  1. Please submit your requests at least a week prior to your absence.

  2. The Vacation Watch program is not intended for periods of time greater than 90 days or homes for sale. IF you will be one more than 90 days, you must re-submit your Vacation Watch at the end of the 90 day period.

Additional Vacation Safety Measures
  1. Notify a friend, relative or trusted neighbor that you'll be away and leave emergency phone numbers with them.

  2. Ensure your doors, windows and gates are locked when you leave.

  3. Manually lock your garage door from the inside and disengage your electronic device, this eliminates the possibility of thieves entering with garage door decoders.

  4. Stop your mail and your newspaper deliveries or have a friend, relative or trusted neighbor bring it in for you daily.

  5. Utilize indoor lights and smart home features on automatic timers - this gives the illusion someone is home.

  6. Arrange for lawncare service while you're away.
